Happy Hour? Not So Fast - UK Pubs Launch Surge Pricing
Your Friday night pint just got pricier. Britain's biggest pub group, Stonegate, is tapping into surge pricing - charging 20p more during peak times.
Stonegate owns big chains like Slug & Lettuce and Yates's. Now 800 of their pubs will jack up prices on weekends and holidays when crowds pack the bars.
Stonegate says soaring costs force their hand - extra staff, security, cleaning and licensing add up. But not all booze-lovers are toasting this new policy.
Surge pricing is nothing novel - airlines and Uber do it all the time. Sports teams and concert promoters too, especially in the US.
But dynamic pricing in pubs has very limited precedent in the UK. Some see it as a greedy corporate ploy to squeeze every penny from partiers.
Still, other major pub CEOs defend the move as business as usual. They argue Stonegate deserves credit for transparency over stealth price hikes.
For now, thirsty patrons beware - your Friday night pint budget may need to go up. Surge pricing means pub night just got more expensive at peak times.
Now you can order a Fiat in any colour except this one
Italian automaker Fiat has announced that it will no longer produce vehicles painted in grey—despite it being one of the most popular automotive colours worldwide.
This change takes effect immediately and the first new Fiat model that won't offer a grey paint option is the forthcoming 600e electric SUV.
Even though around a quarter of new cars sold annually sport a grey exterior according to data, Fiat wants to stand out as ‘the brand of colours.’
The company asserts it will solely provide ‘vibrant hues’ inspired by ‘the Sea, Sun, Earth and Sky of Italy.’ However, white and black paint finishes remain available, in addition to a range of reds, oranges, blues, golds and greens.
In a promo video on social media, Fiat's CEO Olivier Francois sits in a silver 600e as it's gradually lowered into and out of a large barrel of bright orange paint, signifying the move toward more colourful offerings.
